Hawkesdale P12 College-E-learning Project - Podcasting with grade 6 and the Penshurst Volcano Discovery Centre So far…… · Set up and using the following web 2.0 pages:- brainstorming with bubbl.us, book marking websites with del.icio.us, calendar (important dates) with farmundo etc. · Students have learned basic skills in audacity (for podcasting). This includes adding sound loops, adding voice, inserting music and editing techniques. We have started learning MS Moviemaker for the enhanced podcasting. All students have a short demo podcasts completed. · The volunteers from the discovery centre will come and meet the students on Mon Aug 20th and our students will go to Penshurst to view the centre and take a guided walk up Mt Rouse and into the crater. We will also walk around the water gardens. After that, we will work out the mechanics of doing our formal podcasts. At this stage, it is envisaged that students will work in pairs, some on Penshurst and some on the volcanic evidence that surrounds Hawkesdale eg stone fences, barriers etc to produce travel type podcasts which people can listen to and download onto their iPods. · Have worked with Heather Blakely on a blog re our Backyard which is linked to her Places of the Heart. We will start with our own immediate backyards and then move onto the extended region. Our podcasts will be attached here as well when completed. Find us at http://backyard.globalstudent.org.au You can also read my blog re the approaches, processes and the huge learning curve that I am also on at www.murcha.wordpress.com I have put a little bit up on the cluster wiki and will try and keep that updated as much as possible. · Will collaborate and learn podcasting skills with an innovative school in Napier in NZ. Will Skype the classes sometime next week or the week after. · A wiki is in the process of being set up.
Koroit and District PS The finances obtained from the ICT cluster grant, were spent on purchasing a total of fifteen web cams (built in mic), seven 2GB SD memory cards and card readers and one portable DVD player. The web cams have been used to conduct video conferences and meetings both within and beyond the boundaries of our school using communicator. Teachers have used them to participate in meetings within the region and students have used them to share work between classes and present items at assemblies. Every class has access to the web cams which have also been used in the development of Claymation activities. They have been a useful tool that has helped to engage students in their focused learning activities and brought about an improvement to our schools ICT program. The seven 2gb SD memory cards and card readers have been very useful. Not only has the card been used as a memory stick, it can also be inserted into our schools digital camera and be used to store photos. The card reader provides an easy and quick way to transfer the photos and information as the SD card inserts into the card reader and the USB connection enables access to computers. Each teacher has one and uses them, along with their students, to ensure the class has better management of storing and transferring electronic work and images. The Principal also has received one. The portable DVD player was purchased to be used in and around the school to play and show case DVD’s of student’s work and school activities. It has been used to present work which has been played in the school foyer and to the wider community at local events and festivals by being housed in local shops. The DVD also has a karaoke function, which has been utilised at junior school discos. The cluster grant has been very beneficial in improving student outcomes and by providing resources that have improved our ICT program.
Koroit & District PS Grade 6 Reforestation of Tower Hill The aim of the innovative project was to increase students’ knowledge and confidence in presenting prior learning in interesting and stimulating ways. Previously, students had been too focussed on using PowerPoint to deliver presentations and this detracted from the essential question in focus. Students have used a varied range of resources and presentation techniques and this has allowed then to focus on what they know and how best to present it.
Port Fairy Consolidated Environment Sustainability Group So far our group has been meeting weekly and we have increased our knowledge about sustainability and presenting our workshop. We are really looking forward to the conference and we feel we will have a positive affect on other students. Millie Kewley & Cameron Coulton AUSTRALIAN BIODIVERSITY We will focus on our local biodiversity by investigating the following: 1. Gondwana: The history of Australian flora and fauna; 2. Biodiversity: The animals which live in our ecosystems today; 3. Changing ecosystems: Local endangered species. The workshop will have the students participating in field work exploring the indigenous biodiversity of inter-tidal communities. The students will use simple monitoring equipment and procedures to investigate the habitats. What’s coming up in the cluster……..
